How to Maintain Your Holiday Smile

Published on December 31st, 2018 by Michael C. Griffin, D.M.D.

We all know this to be true: December is notoriously packed with get-togethers, gift exchanges, and celebrations of all types. This means photo opportunities, laughter, and lots of catching up. If you want your smile to be prepared for all of the party antics awaiting you, consider these three easy suggestions from our dentist in Lakeview to keep your pearly whites bright.

Consider Straws

While some recommend avoiding darker liquids in general to maintain a sparkling smile, we know that’s unrealistic. Instead, opt for a straw when sipping on coffee, soda, juice, or wine, rather than drinking right from the cup. Straws help liquids avoid direct contact with the teeth, consequently minimizing staining.

Healthy Snacking

Like the many of the other balanced benefits of fruits and vegetables, they’re excellent for your teeth. Rich in nutrients like vitamin C, they prompt the production of saliva which assists in cleaning out your mouth and flushing out excess food that may be detrimental to your smile.

Store-Bought Whitening

Whitening products like toothpastes, mouthwashes, strips, and gels are a guaranteed method to eliminate some of those lingering coffee stains. Although these products do the trick, make sure not to overdo the strips! They often lead to sensitivity.

Being kind to your smile is one of the most rewarding gifts to give yourself. However, if these tips aren’t cutting it for you, contact your dentist in Lakeview to set up an appointment for your next professional whitening session.
